A big congratulations to Alan Dillon TD and Shane Bourke for delivering another fantastic morning with our Careers Connect programme. With 130 students packing the room, it was a high-energy session and a wonderful way to kickstart our journey toward the milestone of reaching 1,000 local students.
Deputy Dillon connected with the students, sharing honest, practical insights and invaluable life lessons, including three key pieces of advice he wished he had known at their age. This marks the second time Alan has generously volunteered his time for the programme, having previously spoken to a great crowd at St. Gerald’s College.

Real Impact in Action
The students at Davitt College continue to be highly engaged with these guest talks and our mock interviews. The tangible impact of these connections was highlighted right after the event. A student approached Shane Bourke to share that they had just completed a week of work experience with Mitchell McDermott Construction Consultants—an opportunity that came about as a direct result of our previous Davitt College talk featuring Paul Mitchell! This is exactly what Careers Connect is all about: opening doors and sparking real-world opportunities for our local youth.
Careers Connect is a schools initiative proudly organised and run by the Castlebar Rotary Club.
