On Tuesday, 7 April 2026, Castlebar Rotarians James Murray and John Mulroy addressed the Castlebar Men’s Shed gathering at their headquarters near St Mary’s Hospital.

The talk focused on stroke awareness — what causes stroke, how to recognise it, and what to do if you notice the signs in yourself or in someone else. It led to a very worthwhile exchange of views, with plenty of participation and engagement from everyone present.
The Men’s Shed movement plays a valuable role in communities by bringing people together in a welcoming and supportive environment. Men’s Sheds provide a place where members can meet, share experiences, learn from one another and stay socially connected. That made Castlebar Men’s Shed a very fitting venue for an important community health talk like this one.

The strong response on the day showed just how useful these local conversations can be. Stroke awareness is an issue that affects many families and communities, and knowing how to recognise the warning signs and respond quickly can make a real difference.
This presentation also served as an important follow-on from Castlebar Rotary’s Annual Stroke Awareness Day, helping to reinforce the key message that awareness, prevention and early action matter. It is another example of Castlebar Rotary continuing to support practical community health initiatives that can have a real impact.
A sincere thank you to the members of Castlebar Men’s Shed for the warm welcome, and to everyone who contributed so positively to the discussion.
