This was the second speaker that Rotary Careers Connect has brought to Davitt College, and once again the event proved to be a great success. The latest guest speaker was Paul Mitchell, originally from Belcarra, outside Castlebar, who gave a fascinating and very well-attended talk that was thoroughly enjoyed by the students.
A past pupil and friend of Davitt College, Paul Mitchell, Director of Mitchell McDermott Construction Consultants, gave students a great insight into his own time in Davitt College as a student, as well as sharing the story of how his company has grown over the past number of years. It was a particularly meaningful occasion for students to hear from someone with such strong local roots who has gone on to build an internationally recognised business.
Paul and his business partner Anthony McDermott from Belmullet are founders of Mitchell McDermott, a leading international construction consultancy practice with offices in Dublin, Limerick, London and Amsterdam. His talk offered valuable insight into careers in construction, entrepreneurship, business growth and the opportunities that can come from ambition, commitment and experience.
The talk was extremely well received, and students were delighted to have the opportunity not only to listen, but also to ask questions and engage with Paul after the talk.

In recognition of Paul’s support of Davitt College, he was presented with a Davitt College jersey and beanie hat, a gesture that marked the occasion in a warm and memorable way.
Castlebar Rotary Club extends its sincere thanks to Paul Mitchell for giving his time so generously and for delivering the latest Careers Connect talk in Davitt College. His willingness to share his experience and answer students’ questions was greatly appreciated by all present.
A special word of thanks also goes to Shane Bourke of Castlebar Rotary Club for organising the talk, introducing Paul, and being present during the afternoon.
