Castlebar Rotary Club’s annual charity table quiz, held on Thursday 26th February at Garbo’s, Mayo Leisure Point, proved to be a great success, raising €2,500 for the Gráine Mhaol Dragon Boat Club. The event was extremely well supported, with 36 tables filled on the night and a very enjoyable atmosphere. The funds raised will go towards extending the club’s pontoon at Lough Lannagh.

The evening was organised by Rotarians Darragh Loftus, John Mulroy, Breda Gilvarry and Finian Joyce, with Finian keeping everyone on their toes as quizmaster. Thanks also to Vivienne Kyne for coordinating with the Dragon Boat Club.
Thanks to the efforts of a great team of Rotarians working behind the scenes, the event ran smoothly and created a lively and enjoyable atmosphere in Garbo’s. A big thank you also to Declan Kilkelly and his team for accommodating and setting up the venue for such a large crowd.
A special word of thanks goes to the members of the Gráine Mhaol Dragon Boat Club, who turned out in great numbers to support the fundraiser. Their enthusiasm and participation helped make the event a real community occasion, with plenty of friendly rivalry between the tables and lots of laughter along the way.
Gráine Mhaol Dragon Boat Club, based on Lough Lannagh in Castlebar, welcomes paddlers of all backgrounds and abilities and has grown into a vibrant and supportive community group since its establishment. www.mayodragonboat.com
The funds raised will go towards extending the club’s pontoon at Lough Lannagh, an important improvement that will make launching the boats safer and easier for paddlers. At present, members often have to make their way across temporary pallets supported by tyres before climbing into the boats – water levels on the lake are often high. The planned pontoon extension will provide a more stable and accessible launch point for the club’s activities and others in the community that use the pontoon.
