Castlebar Rotary Club was delighted to run another hugely successful College & Careers Evening at St Gerald’s College, Castlebar, on Wednesday 19th November.
Under the experienced direction of Rotarian James Murray (Murray Ambulances), this annual event has grown into a major date on the Rotary and school calendar. This year’s fair featured an impressive 67 careers and college stations, giving students and their parents the chance to meet professionals from a wide range of fields and ask questions about real-life career paths.
The sports hall was buzzing all evening. Visitors could:
-
Learn about veterinary work with a life-size cow and calf model
-
Meet Gardaí, complete with demonstration equipment
-
Watch plumbers bending pipes and talking about apprenticeships
-
See a barber/hairdresser demonstrating cutting and styling techniques
- Meet and chat to Dave and Stephen from MidWest Radio
-
Chat to representatives from business, medicine, engineering, radio, the trades and many more sectors
Both students and parents engaged enthusiastically with the exhibitors, and the feedback from all involved was extremely positive.
“What a great evening. James, a sincere thank you to you and your fellow Rotarians… can’t thank you all enough,”
said Sharon Geraghty, Careers Fair facilitator and school coordinator for the event.
On social media, St Gerald’s paid tribute to the many Rotarians and professionals who gave their time, as well as the school staff whose hard work helped make the night such a success. Local media and organisations, including Midwest Radio, also took part, sharing insights into careers in broadcasting and communications.
