Gladiator II Rotary Castlebar Movie Premiere fundraiser

At the request of Rotary member Niall Taylor, the Castlebar Rotary Club decided to dedicate the proceeds from the Gladiator II movie premiere fundraiser to support a very worthwhile local autism project. This initiative is helping a local family who, in the words of the mother are “fundraising for a sensory and washroom for my autistic son. My son is now 17 and has autism, OCD, severe anxiety and mental health issues including suicidal ideation.” The project will provide a much-needed sensory and washroom pod in their backyard, tailored to meet the specific needs of their son.

Niall Taylor is working on this project pro bono, supported by local skilled tradespeople and building suppliers. The team is purchasing and fully equipping a pod for the family’s back garden, a 3-bedroom semi-detached house. While a grant from the HSE has been secured, additional funds are needed to complete the project. The family is actively fundraising to meet their goal, you can make a donation here. This project may not need all the funds raised on the night so the balance will be distributed to other local autism projects.  

As a club we are proud to support this project, and Niall, who is a very popular member of Rotary.

Members were delighted to reconnect with former club members, with the evening made even more special by the presence of Tommy Carney, who stole the show!

The Gladiator II movie premiere took place on Friday, November 15th, at Mayo Movie World, and the theatre was filled to capacity. Guests enjoyed a fantastic evening, with scrumptious canapés sponsored by The Dining Room restaurant and wine and soft drinks kindly provided by Alan Mulroy of Mulroy’s Forecourt at the roundabout.

Rotary Club President John Mulroy opened the event with a warm thank-you to all the sponsors, Rotarians, friends, and family members who supported the evening. He highlighted the collective efforts of the club in making the fundraiser a success.

John gave a special acknowledgment to Breda Mulroy, Hilda Dunne and Sarah Flood for their exceptional work behind the scenes. Their work and planning behind the scene ensured the event ran smoothly and was a great success.

An excellent night, well done to all and we are all looking forward to our next project – Mock Interviews for fifty St Gerald Students on the 20th November.  This event is being run by Rotarian Paul O’Grady and St Geralds, Sharon Geraghty.
