Rotary Castlebar recently organised a successful appeal for the victims of the cyclone disaster in Burma.   With the support of the Burmese community the club raised over €1,500. The appeal was held on the 30th August in Castlebar.   Funds are badly needed to assist the 2.4 million survivors who are struggling to survive in the aftermath of the cyclone which struck on the 3rd May.  John Horkan, President of Rotary Castlebar thanked the people of Castlebar for their generosity in supporting this appeal.

 UNICEF Church Gate Collection

The Church Gate Collection for UNICEF which is run annually by the Castlebar Rotary Club will be held on Sunday the 21st September outside the churches in Castlebar.    UNICEF a worldwide charity organisation focuses exclusively on providing assistance to the world’s poorest children.

Walter Donohue, the Chairperson of Rotary’s Youth Committee quotes a shocking statistic “every year nearly 11 million children, about 30,000 a day, die before their fifth birthday mostly from preventable causes.  He explains that UNICEF relies on fundraising from the general public and charitable organisations such as Rotary to continue their good work.  So with this in mind Walter Donohue and his committee are asking you to support their UNICEF collection on September 21st in Castlebar.
